The global push towards renewable energy has led to an increase in the number of wind farms being constructed worldwide. However, the construction and maintenance of wind farms present a unique set of challenges, including the need for constant inspection and maintenance of the turbines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Challenge
At the end of every wind farm construction project, there is a handover process that can be plagued with non-conformance reports (NCRs). These issues can take time to identify and address, often resulting in project delays and additional costs. Additionally, the visual appearance of wind turbines is essential for the overall aesthetic of the wind farm, and any flaws or imperfections in the finish can be a cause for concern.
Solution
ICS offers a range of services to wind farm operators, including the provision of a “find and fix” service for NCRs. By conducting corrosion surveys using drones, telescopes, and rope access, our highly trained personnel can identify and map any issues that may be present on each turbine. This information is then logged into our cloud-based reporting system, allowing for a trackable process record to close out the NCR. ICS also provides specification design and review services to bridge expectations and what is practicably possible after construction.
Additionally, ICS can offer a patch repair method utilising Easy-Qote patching technology that ensures a clean, uniform painted finish. We utilise a range of high-quality products to provide a solution that protects the turbines for the duration of their life cycle.
Implementation
ICS employs highly qualified technicians who are onsite and actively involved in each step of the process. Our personnel are cross-trained in AMPP (NACE), Rope Access, Rigging, Blade Repairs, and Construction, ensuring successful delivery on time, every time. Our find and fix campaign for NCRs at Bango Wind Farm, working for GE Renewables, successfully identified and repaired several previously unidentified issues located on the turbines. The project was completed on budget and on time, with no impact on the project schedule or cost.
